Removal & Installation (2.2L)

WARNING: Hot engine coolant may cause severe burns. Although the cooling system has been drained, coolant still remains in the engine water jacket. This coolant will drain with the removal of the Knock Sensor (KS).
  1. Turn OFF the ignition. Record preset radio stations. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove knock sensor harness connector. See Fig 1 . Remove knock sensor connector from retaining clip by inserting a flat-blade screwdriver between connector and clip while sliding the connector upward. Remove knock sensor.
  2. CAUTION: The larger metal contact area of the knock sensor MUST be installed toward the engine block. DTC P0325 may result if the sensor is installed backwards.
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure knock sensor is position at the 9 o'clock position. Tighten the knock sensor bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Connect the knock sensor 1 electrical connector.
