Intake Manifold Lift & Support Procedure (3.0L): Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Loosen clamps at air cleaner assembly and throttle body assembly. Remove attachment bolts from outlet resonator/duct assembly to support bracket. Remove outlet resonator/duct assembly. See Figure .
  2. Remove outlet resonator/duct assembly bracket from manifold. Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE  under FUEL SYSTEMS. Disconnect Gauge Bar Set (SA9127E) and Fuel Pressure Adapter Fitting (J44095) after pressure has been released.
  3. Disconnect fuel transfer line at quick-connect from fuel line using the Blue tool from Fuel Line Disconnect Set (J37088A). Disconnect brake booster line from brake booster. Disconnect intake manifold control solenoid and fuel injector connectors. Remove intake manifold cover. See Figure .
  4. NOTE: To remove the 5 upper manifold bolts, use a 1/4" drive T-30 Torx and long 1/4" drive extension.
  5. Remove upper manifold-to-spacer plate bolts. Remove lower intake manifold bolt (near throttle body). See Figure . It is not necessary to remove throttle body assembly. Disconnect purge solenoid and hose from manifold and position away from manifold. Remove rear electrical harness bolt to manifold. Disconnect throttle body electrical connector. Position harness away from manifold. Disconnect small PCV hose at throttle body.
  6. NOTE: Care must be taken while lifting and supporting the intake manifold assembly. To gain access to all components under the intake manifold, the manifold can be loosened and tilted upward.
  7. Lift intake manifold from cylinder head (manifold will not be completely removed). See Figure . Tie or support intake manifold when desired position is achieved. Install Debris Screen (J45482) onto spacer plate to prevent debris from entering into the cylinder head/cylinder. See Figure .
