Removal & Installation

- Remove the fuel tank filler cap. Disconnect negative battery cables. Raise and suport vehicle. Remove the fuel tank. See FUEL TANK . Use Fuel Sender Tool (J 36608) to remove the sender unit by turning the cam lock counterclockwise. Do not damage the rubber insulator or the strainer. Remove the sending unit by pulling up.
- Inspect the attaching hose for signs of deterioration. Inspect the rubber sound insulation at the bottom of the pump. Inspect the strainer.
- Install the sender assembly into the attaching hose, using NEW "O" ring seal. Do not fold or twist the strainer when installing the sending unit. This action restricts fuel flow. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners properly. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Check the system for leaks.
