Removal Procedure

CAUTION:
An electric fan under the hood can start up even when the engine is not running and can injure you. Keep hands, clothing and tools away from any underhood electric fan.
CAUTION:
To help avoid personal injury or damage to the vehicle, a bent, cracked, or damaged fan blade or housing should always be replaced.
CAUTION:
Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the left and right engine mount struts. Refer to ENGINE MOUNT STRUT REPLACEMENT in Engine Mechanical - 3.1 L or ENGINE MOUNT STRUT REPLACEMENT - LEFT and ENGINE MOUNT STRUT REPLACEMENT - RIGHT in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
- Remove the air cleaner assembly.
- Disconnect the engine cooling fan electrical connector.
- Disconnect the PCM wiring harness from the left side fan shroud clip and reposition the wiring harness aside.
- Remove the transmission oil cooler lines from the lower fan shroud clip and reposition the oil cooler lines aside.
- Remove the cooling fan shroud bolts.
- Remove the cooling fans.
