Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Relieve the fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Drain the fuel tank. Remove the fuel tank. See FUEL TANK . Remove the fuel sender assembly. See FUEL SENDER ASSEMBLY .
  2. Note the position of the fuel strainer on the fuel sender. Support the fuel sender assembly with one hand and grasp the strainer with the other hand. Pull the strainer off the fuel sender. Inspect the strainer. Discard the strainer after inspection. If strainer is contaminated, clean the fuel tank. See FUEL SYSTEM CLEANING . Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector. Remove the electrical connector retaining clip from the fuel level sensor. Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel level sensor under the fuel sender cover. Remove the retaining clip from the fuel level sensor. Squeeze the locking tangs and remove the fuel level sensor. Remove the fuel pressure sensor.
  3. Install the fuel pressure sensor. Install the fuel level sensor. Install the retaining clip to the fuel level sensor. Connect the electrical connector to the fuel level sensor. Connect the electrical connector retaining clip. Connect the fuel pump electrical connector. Install a NEW fuel strainer in the same position as noted during disassembly. Push the strainer on the bottom of the fuel sender until the strainer is fully seated. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Connect the negative battery cable. Inspect for leaks. Turn ignition ON for 2 seconds. Turn ignition OFF for 10 seconds. Turn ignition ON. Inspect for fuel leaks.
