Removal & Installation (5.0 & 5.7L - Lower)

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Drain the engine coolant. Remove the air cleaner intake duct. Remove the engine cover. See ENGINE COVER . Remove the coolant reservoir. Remove the upper radiator hose, inlet and outlet heater hoses and Coolant by-pass hose.
  2. Disconnect the SCPI injector electrical connector, Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor electrical connector, EVAP canister purge solenoid valve electrical connector, Idle Air Control (IAC) motor electrical connector, Throttle Position (TP) sensor. Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve electrical connector and Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector.
  3. Remove AIR bypass hose assembly, if so equipped. Use a twisting motion in order to remove the brake booster vacuum hose (if equipped). Remove the distributor from the engine. See DISTRIBUTOR  under IGNITION SYSTEMS. Remove the fuel pipes from the rear of the engine. Remove the accelerator control cable and the cruise control cables (if equipped), from the throttle shaft. Remove the accelerator control cable bracket from the throttle body and the lower intake manifold.
  4. NOTE: It is not necessary to discharge the A/C refrigerant.
  5. Remove the ignition coil and ICM bracket. Remove the EGR pipe from the intake manifold. Remove the Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor (if equipped), and set aside. Remove the power steering pulley from the power steering pump. Remove the power steering pump mounting bracket. Remove the valve covers. Remove the lower intake manifold from the engine. Clean all sealing surfaces.
  6. Install the lower intake manifold to the engine. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the engine cover.
