Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Sonoma and 2002 Chevrolet S10 Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT: Inspect the bearing retainer for any nicks or cracks that may result in a leak. Replace if necessary.
  1. Install the retaining ring on the input shaft bearing. Place the input shaft seal in the front bearing retainer.
  2. Using the J 38801  install the input shaft seal.

  3. Apply a thin layer of RTV sealer GM P/N 12345739 or equivalent to the mating surfaces of the input shaft bearing retainer.
  4. Install the input shaft bearing retainer to the clutch housing.
  5. Install the 5 bearing retainer bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the 5 bearing retainer bolts to 29 N.m (21 lb ft).

  6. Install the clutch actuator to the input shaft.

  7. Install the clutch actuator bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the clutch actuator bolts to 8 N.m (71 lb in).

  8. Install the transmission. Refer to TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT .
  9. Install the rear propeller. Refer to PROPELLER SHAFT REPLACEMENT - ONE PIECE or PROPELLER SHAFT REPLACEMENT - TWO PIECE in DRIVE SHAFT article.
  10. Fill the transmission to the proper fluid level. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID REPLACEMENT .
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Bleed the clutch system. Refer to BLEEDING in CLUTCH article.
