Electric Park Lock Module - Disassemble - Off Vehicle

Tools Required 

J 41352  Modular Column Holding Fixture

CAUTION: Refer to SIR CAUTION .
  1. Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to DISABLING SYSTEM .
    IMPORTANT: Place the steering column in the CENTER position.
  2. Remove the tilt lever (1). Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle .

  3. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  4. Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  5. Put the steering column and J 41352  into a vise.
  6. Use a small screwdriver to pull the filler plug out of the bottom of the lower trim cover.

  7. Insert the small screwdriver into the filler plug hole in the bottom of the lower trim cover.
  8. Use the screwdriver to push up on the manual override of the electric park lock (1).
  9. Turn the key to the LOCK position. Remove the key.

  10. Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) from the lower trim cover (2).

  11. Remove the lower trim cover from the upper trim cover in the following way:
    1. 11.1. Tilt the lower trim cover down.
    2. 11.2. Slide the lower trim cover backward in order to disengage the locking tabs.

  12. Remove the 2 TORX ® head screws (1) from the upper trim cover (2).
  13. Remove the upper trim cover (2) from the steering column.

  14. Remove the black connector (2) from the electric park lock(1).

  15. Pry the electric park lock (2) off of the electronic lock module assembly (1).
