Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Use compressed air in order to blow oil out of the tapped holes in the cylinder head.
  2. Lubricate the ends of the push rod(s) with new engine oil. Install the push rod(s) to the same position the push rod(s) was removed from.

  3. Install the push rod guide plate(s).

  4. Install the valve rocker arm(s).
    NOTE: This bolt is designed to permanently stretch when tightened. The correct part number fastener must be used to replace this type of fastener. Do not use a bolt that is stronger in this application. If the correct bolt is not used, the parts will not be tightened correctly. The system or the components may be damaged.
  5. Apply GM P/N 12345493 threadlocker or equivalent to the rocker arm bolt threads.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  6. Install the valve rocker arm bolt(s).

    Tighten 

    Tighten the valve rocker arm bolt(s) to 15 N.m (11 lb ft). Use the J 36660-A  in order to rotate the bolts an additional 90 degrees.

  7. Install the valve rocker arm cover(s). Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Left  or Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right .
  8. Inspect the valve train for noise.
