Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the new valve rocker arm cover gasket. Make sure that the valve rocker arm cover gasket is seated properly in the valve rocker arm cover groove.
  2. Install the right valve rocker arm cover.
  3. Apply thread lock compound GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or equivalent to the valve rocker arm cover bolt threads.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  4. Install the right valve rocker arm cover bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  5. Install the fuel injector sight shield bracket to the exhaust manifold.
  6. Install the fuel injector sight shield bracket nuts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the nuts to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).

  7. Install the right engine lift bracket to the exhaust manifold.
  8. Install the right engine lift bracket bolt and nut.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolt and the nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).

  9. Install the EVAP purge solenoid and the brace. Refer to EVAP CANISTER PURGE SOLENOID .
  10. Install the right spark plug wires to the right spark plugs.
  11. Carefully release the J 41131.  Return the engine to the proper position.
  12. Install the right and the left engine mount struts. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right  and Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left .
  13. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement (L36)  or Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement (L67) .
  14. Install the air cleaner intake duct. Refer to AIR CLEANER INTAKE DUCT .
  15. Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement (L36)  or Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement (L67) .
  16. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE .
  17. Check and fill the crankcase as necessary.
  18. Inspect for oil leaks.
