Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE .
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM .
  3. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir. Refer to COOLANT RECOVERY RESERVOIR REPLACEMENT .
  4. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (L36)  or Drive Belt Replacement (L67) .
  5. Remove the generator. Refer to GENERATOR .
  6. Remove the heater hose adapters with the heater hoses from the drive belt tensioner. Refer to HEATER HOSE REPLACEMENT - INLET (3.1L) or HEATER HOSE REPLACEMENT - INLET (3.8L) and to HEATER HOSE REPLACEMENT - OUTLET (3.1 L) or HEATER HOSE REPLACEMENT - OUTLET (3.8L) .
  7. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner bolts.
  8. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner.
  9. If replacing the drive belt tensioner, remove the thermostat bypass upper and lower pipe assemblies.
