Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE .
  2. Remove the engine mount struts from the engine. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
  3. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture .
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE .
  5. Remove the A/C compressor; secure and reposition the compressor. Do not discharge the A/C system. Refer to COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT (3.1 L) or COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT (3.8L) .
  6. Remove the 3-way catalytic converter pipe from the right exhaust manifold. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT (3.1L) or CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT (3.8L) .
  7. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  8. Disconnect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
  9. Remove the starter motor. Refer to STARTER MOTOR .
  10. Remove the transaxle brace from the oil pan. Refer to TRANSAXLE BRACE .
  11. Loosen the transaxle mount lower nuts. Refer to TRANSAXLE MOUNT & BRACKET .
  12. Remove the engine mount lower nuts. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Use the engine support fixture in order to raise the engine.
  15. Raise the vehicle.
  16. Remove the engine mount bracket with the engine mount from the oil pan. Refer to Engine Mount Bracket Replacement .
  17. Remove the right lower ball joint from the steering knuckle. Refer to LOWER BALL JOINT REPLACEMENT .
  18. Remove the right outer tie rod from the steering knuckle. Refer to TIE ROD END REPLACEMENT - OUTER .
  19. Remove the right side frame bolts.
  20. Loosen the left side frame bolts.

  21. Use J 39505  in order to remove the right oil pan side bolts.

  22. Remove the left oil pan side bolts.

  23. Remove the oil pan bolts.
  24. Remove the oil pan.
  25. Remove the oil pan gasket.
  26. Clean the oil pan and the engine block gasket surface.
