Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Apply sealant at the rear main bearing cap and the engine block (1).
  2. Install the oil pan gasket.
  3. Install the oil pan.

    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  4. Install the oil pan bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the left oil pan side bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  6. Use J 39505  in order to install the right oil pan side bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  7. Install the frame bolts.
  8. Install the right lower ball joint to the steering knuckle. Refer to LOWER BALL JOINT REPLACEMENT .
  9. Install the right outer tie rod to the steering knuckle. Refer to TIE ROD END REPLACEMENT - OUTER .
  10. Install the engine mount bracket with the engine mount to the oil pan. Refer to Engine Mount Bracket Replacement .
  11. Lower the vehicle.

  12. Use the engine support fixture in order to lower the engine.
  13. Raise the vehicle.
  14. Install the transaxle mount lower nuts. Refer to TRANSAXLE MOUNT & BRACKET .
  15. Install the engine mount lower nuts. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  16. Install the transaxle brace to the oil pan. Refer to TRANSAXLE BRACE .
  17. Install the starter motor. Refer to STARTER MOTOR .
  18. Connect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
  19. Install the 3-way catalytic converter pipe to the right exhaust manifold. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT (3.1L) or CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT (3.8L) .
  20. Install the A/C compressor. Refer to COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT (3.1 L) or COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT (3.8L) .
  21. Lower the vehicle.
  22. Remove the engine support fixture.
  23. Install the engine mount struts to the engine. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
  24. Fill the crankcase with engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  25. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE .
