Removal (Sierra & Silverado)

- Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Drain as much fuel as possible through fuel filler opening using a hand-operated pump or equivalent.
- Remove 3 fuel filler pipe housing-to-truck bed bolts, accessible when fuel door is open. Remove 3 fuel filler pipe housing-to-fuel filler pipe bolts. Remove fuel filler pipe housing. Remove fuel vent hose from clip on fuel filler pipe. Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove fuel filler pipe ground strap retaining bolt. Loosen fuel filler pipe hose clamp at fuel tank. Remove fuel filler pipe/hose. Remove EVAP canister. See EVAP CANISTER under EMISSION SYSTEMS & SUB-SYSTEMS.
- Disconnect EVAP pipe and fuel feed and return line fittings near front of fuel tank. See FUEL LINE DISCONNECT FITTINGS . Cap fuel and EVAP pipes to prevent possible fuel system contamination.
- Remove fuel tank shield (if equipped). See Figure. Support fuel tank. Remove fuel tank strap bolts. Remove fuel tank straps. Slightly lower fuel tank to gain access to electrical connectors. Disconnect fuel tank sending unit and fuel pressure sensor harness connectors. Remove fuel tank.
