Inspections Action
DEFINITION: The engine continues to run after the key is turned OFF, but runs very rough. If the engine runs smooth, inspect the ignition switch and the ignition switch adjustment.
Preliminary
  • Refer to Important Preliminary Checks Before Starting in Symptoms - Engine Controls .
  • Search for bulletins.
  • Verify that the engine control module (ECM) and ECM bracket fasteners are at the correct torque.
  • Inspect the engine control system grounds for being clean, tight, and in the correct locations. Refer to Power and Grounding Component Views in Wiring Systems and Engine Controls Schematics . Ensure the resistance between the ECM housing and the battery negative cable is less than 0.5 ohms.
Fuel System Test the fuel system for the following conditions:
  • High fuel system pressure
  • Leaking fuel injectors
