Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Aztek and 2004 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LA1) or Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LY7) in Engine Electrical.
  2. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  5. Remove the air baffle bolts.
  6. Remove the air baffle.
  7. Remove the suction hose to evaporator outlet tube bolt.

  9. Disconnect the evaporator outlet tube from the suction hose.
  10. IMPORTANT: Cap or tape the open A/C hose immediately to prevent system contamination.
  11. Cap or tape off the evaporator outlet tube.

  13. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
  14. Disconnect the engine harness electrical connector above the A/C compressor and reposition the wiring harness aside.

  16. Remove the suction hose to compressor nut.
  17. Disconnect the suction hose from the compressor.
  18. Cap or tape off the compressor suction port.

  20. Lower the vehicle.
  21. Loosen the right hand engine mount strut, engine side.
  22. Remove the right hand engine mount strut bracket brace bolts from the upper radiator support and rotate the strut and bracket rearward.
  23. Remove the suction hose.
  24. Remove and discard the sealing washers.
