Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Aztek and 2004 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    IMPORTANT: Do not disconnect the reservoir hose from the reservoir.
  1. Remove and reposition the coolant reservoir. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Engine Cooling.
  3. Remove the air cleaner intake duct with the mass air flow (MAF) sensor and the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose. Refer to Air Cleaner Intake Duct Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.6L (LY7).
  4. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater pipes. Refer to Heater Hose Replacement - Inlet (LA1)  or Heater Hose Replacement - Inlet (LY7)  and Heater Hose Replacement - Outlet (LA1)  or Heater Hose Replacement - Outlet (LY7) .

    IMPORTANT: Use a universal or swivel-socket with an extension in order to remove the heater pipe bolts.
  5. Remove the heater pipe bolts.
  6. Remove the heater pipe assembly.
  7. Remove and discard the O-ring seal and gasket.
  8. Clean the gasket sealing surfaces.
