Test Description

The number below refers to the step number on the diagnostic table.

  1. 3:  Tests for an internal fault in the windshield wiper/washer switch.
Washers Always On

1 Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections? Go to Step 2  Go to Symptoms - Wiper/Washer Systems 
2 Turn the ignition ON.
Are the windshield washers always on?
Go to Step 3  Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems
Disconnect the windshield wiper/washer switch connector at the multifunction switch assembly.
Are the windshield washers always on?
Go to Step 4  Go to Step 5 
4 Repair the short to voltage in the windshield washer pump control circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 6  -
5 Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal Switch Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
Is the repair complete?
Go to Step 6  -
6 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 3
