Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Saturn Vue and 2002 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. With ignition on, engine running. Apply parking brake. Depress brake pedal. With gearshift lever in Park increase engine speed. Move gearshift lever to Neutral and increase engine speed. Did vehicle attempt to move in either gear selection? If so, go to next step. If not, problem is intermittent.
  2. Inspect shift cable for proper adjustment. See appropriate AUTOMATIC article in TRANSMISSION SERVICING. Is control cable properly adjusted? If so, go to next step. If not, adjust shift cable and retest.
  3. Turn ignition on, engine off. Using scan tool, monitor PNP switch. Move gearshift lever from Park to Low, checking each position. Is scan tool reading correct for each gearshift lever position? If so, go to next step. If not, see DTC P0705: PNP SWITCH CIRCUIT  .
  4. Manual valve link bent or damaged. See appropriate AUTOMATIC article in TRANSMISSION SERVICING.
