To locate an intermittent problem, use a scan tool to monitor transmission fluid temperature with ignition on, engine off. Wiggling wires while watching for a change in transmission fluid temperature may locate the area where the open or short to ground in the wiring could lie. In addition, check for loose terminal connections. A short to voltage on the TFT high circuit (585) may damage the TFT sensor. Check for correct resistance vs. temperature after the repair has been made. See COMPONENT RESISTANCE under ELECTRONIC COMPONENT SPECIFICATIONS. The TCM uses two internal resistors to identify transmission fluid temperature. When looking for an intermittent failure, both temperature ranges should be checked. The temperature in one range may look normal while the other range does not. Test the low temperature range with the transaxle at room temperature and the high temperature range with the transaxle at normal operating temperature (greater than 158°F (70°C).
