Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Buick Park Avenue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- If SIR Diagnostic System Check has been performed, go to next step. If SIR Diagnostic System Check has not been performed, go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect SDM harness connector. Inspect connector for damage, corrosion or faulty connections. If connector is damaged, correct condition and go to step 14. If connector is not damaged, go to next step.
- Using Digital Multimeter (J-39200), measure resistance between SIS sensor and return circuits at SDM harness connector terminals No. B5 and B6. If resistance is infinite, go to next step. If resistance is not infinite, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition on. Using Digital Multimeter (J-39200), measure voltage between SDM terminal No. B5 and ground. If voltage is greater than one volt, go to step 8. If voltage is one volt or less, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using Digital Multimeter (J-39200), measure voltage between SDM terminal No. B6 and ground. If voltage is greater than one volt, go to step 8. If voltage is one volt or less, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Using Digital Multimeter (J-39200), measure resistance between SDM harness connector terminal No. B6 and ground. If resistance is infinite, go to next step. If resistance is not infinite, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition off. Using Digital Multimeter (J-39200), measure resistance between SDM harness connector terminal No. B5 and ground. If resistance is infinite, go to step 10. If resistance is not infinite, go to next step.
- Inspect SIS connector for corrosion, damaged terminals or poor connections. If damage is found, go to next step. If no damage is found, go to step 13.
- Repair damaged circuits. Go to step 14.
- Using Digital Multimeter (J-39200), measure resistance between SDM harness connector terminal No. B5 and terminal "B" on SIS connector. See Figure & Figure . If resistance is infinite, go to step 12. If resistance is not infinite, go to next step.
- Using Digital Multimeter (J-39200), measure resistance between SDM harness connector terminal No. B6 and terminal "A" on SIS connector. See Figure & Figure . If resistance is less than one ohm, go to step 13. If resistance is one ohm or more, go to next step.
- Repair open in circuit 2161 or 2162. Go to step 14.
- Replace SIS. See SIDE IMPACT SENSOR (SIS) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step 14.
- Reconnect all SIR components. Ensure that all components are properly mounted. Clear all SIR DTCs. If DTCs cannot be cleared, go to next step.
- Replace SDM. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step.
- Reconnect all SIR components. Ensure that all components are properly mounted. Clear all SIR DTCs. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
