Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Aztek and 2004 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in SIR.
  2. Remove the inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement (Aztek) or Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement (Rendezvous) in SIR.
  3. Disconnect the steering wheel control electrical connector.
  4. Remove the steering wheel nut.
  5. Install J 42578  and J 1859-A  to the steering wheel. See Special Tools and Equipment .

  7. Use J 42578  and J 1859-A  in order to remove the steering wheel. See Special Tools and Equipment .
  8. Remove J 42578  and J 1859-A  from the steering wheel. See Special Tools and Equipment .
  9. Remove the controls and the control harness from the steering wheel.
