Diagnostic Aids

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Saturn LW200, 2002 Saturn L200, and 2002 Saturn L100. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

If ABS DTC C0040 is also set, diagnose that DTC first. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES. If a right front wheel speed signal is not sent to the EBTCM, the EBTCM will not supply a vehicle speed signal to PCM.

To locate an intermittent problem, use scan tool to monitor VEHICLE SPEED with vehicle raised and drive wheels moving more than 3 MPH. Wiggling wires while watching for a change in VEHICLE SPEED may locate area where an open or short to ground in wiring could lie.

If vehicle speed signal is missing, speedometer will be inoperative.
