Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. 3:  This step verifies if the Auxiliary Transmission Fluid pump is operational.
  2. 4:  This step tests for the Auxiliary Transmission Fluid pump pressure.
DTC P2797 (M33 Only)

Step Action Values Yes No
1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls? - Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls in Engine Controls - 4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L
2 Inspect for correct transmission fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Checking Procedure .
Did you perform the fluid checking procedure?
- Go to Step 3  -
  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. With a scan tool, record the Freeze Frame and Failure Records.
  3. Clear the DTCs.
  4. Command the Auxiliary Transmission Fluid pump relay ON and OFF with a scan tool.
Listen for the Auxiliary Transmission Fluid Pump running. Can you hear the Auxiliary Transmission Pump running when you turn it ON with a scan tool?
- Go to Step 4  Go to DTC P2796 (M33 Only) 
  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Install the Transmission Fluid PSI gage at the case tap.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Command the Auxiliary Transmission Fluid pump relay ON with a scan tool.
Is the pressure above the specified value?
16 PSI Go to Step 7  Go to Step 5 
5 Inspect the Auxiliary Transmission Fluid Pump for a restricted filter, loose mounting bolts or leaking gasket.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 8  Go to Step 6 
6 Replace the auxiliary transmission fluid pump.
Did you complete the replacement?
- Go to Step 8  -
7 Replace the TFP manual valve position switch. Refer to Valve Body and Pressure Switch Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?
- Go to Step 8  -
8 Perform the following procedure in order to verify the repair:
  1. Select DTC.
  2. Select Clear Info.
  3. Operate the vehicle under the following condition:

    Operate the vehicle in engine idle off mode and verify the auxiliary transmission fluid pump is on.

  4. Select Specific DTC.
  5. Enter DTC P2797.

Has the DTC run and passed?
- Go to Step 9  Go to Step 2 
9 With a scan tool, observe the stored information, capture info and DTC Info.
Does the scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed?
- Go to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List in Engine Controls - 4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L System OK
