Differential Side Bearings Replacement (9.75 Inch Axle): Notes

Tools Required

J 22888-D Side Bearing Remover Kit
J 24430 Differential Side Bearing Installer. See Special Tools and Equipment .
J 36597 Side Bearing Puller Pilot - 9.25 inch
J 45711 Differential Side Bearing Remover - Dana 248. See Special Tools and Equipment .
J 45900 Differential Side Bearing Installer - Dana Axles. See Special Tools and Equipment .
J 8092 Universal Driver Handle - 3/4 in - 10

Removal Procedure

Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
Remove the differential assembly. Refer to Differential Replacement (8.6 Inch, 9.5 Inch Axles) , Differential Replacement (9.75 Inch Axle) or Differential Replacement (10.5 Inch, 11.5 Inch Axle) .
Remove the differential side bearing by performing the following steps:
1. Install the J 45711 (2) and the J 36597 (1) as shown.
2. Remove the differential side bearing using the J 45711 and a hydraulic press.

IMPORTANT: Mark the inboard shims left or right.

Remove the inboard shims.
