Transfer Case Rear Oil Seal: Installation

  1. Using the transfer case rear bushing remover and installer, install a NEW rear output shaft bushing. See Fig 1. Install the bushing or the finger section of the transfer case rear bushing remover and installer.
  2. Install the finger section to the main body of the transfer case rear bushing remover and installer. Position the bushing and tool to the case.
  3. Using a hammer and transfer case rear bushing remover and installer, install the bushing. Position the rear output shaft seal in the transfer case.
  4. Using the output shaft seal installer, install the transfer case rear output shaft. See Fig 2. Install the rear propeller shaft. See appropriate DRIVE SHAFTs & UNIVERSAL JOINTS article in DRIVE AXLES.
  5. Check the transfer case fluid level. Fill transfer case with appropriate fluid to proper level. See LUBRICATION . Install the transfer case shield. Lower the vehicle.
