Draining & Refilling: Transmission

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Place a suitable drain pan under the transmission in order to catch the drained transmission fluid. Remove fill and drain plugs.
  2. Remove any old sealant from the transmission housing. Apply a thin bead of Thread Sealant (GM P/N 12346004) or equivalent, to the oil drain and fill plug threads.
  3. After fluid has drained, reinstall drain plug and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  4. Fill transmission with appropriate fluid to proper level. See RECOMMENDED FLUIDS  and FLUID CAPACITIES  . Install fill plug and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
