Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 GMC Sierra, 2004 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, and 2004 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the oil level sensor (1) and clip (3).
    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  2. Install the oil level sensor bolt (2).

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  3. Apply a 2 mm (1/8 in) wide bead of sealant GM P/N 97720043 (Canadian P/N 88901148), or equivalent to the lower oil pan mating surface.

  4. Install the lower oil pan.
  5. Install the lower oil pan bolts and nuts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts/nuts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  6. Connect the oil level sensor electrical connector.

  7. Install the crossmember and bolts, 2WD vehicle shown.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 100 N.m (74 lb ft).

  8. Install the crossmember and bolts, 4WD vehicle shown.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 100 N.m (74 lb ft).

  9. Install the oil pan skid plate and bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

  10. Install the oil filter and the oil pan drain plug. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  11. Lower the vehicle.
