Removal Procedure

  1. Loosen the outlet duct clamp at the upper intake manifold cover.
  2. Remove the upper intake manifold cover from the outlet duct.
  3. Remove the upper intake manifold cover.

  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Single Battery) or Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Auxiliary Battery) in Engine Electrical.
  6. Remove the right fender wheelhouse panel. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
  7. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement - Upper (W/O M74) or Fan Shroud Replacement - Upper (W/M74) in Engine Cooling.
  8. Remove the oil fill tube. Refer to Oil Fill Tube Replacement .
  9. Remove the crankshaft front oil seal. Refer to Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Replacement .
  10. Remove the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (6.6L (LB7) Engine) in Engine Cooling.
  11. Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.
  12. Remove the CMP sensor bolt and sensor.

  14. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
  15. Remove the CKP sensor bolt and sensor.
  16. Remove the CKP sensor spacer bolts and spacer.

  18. Remove and discard the O-rings from the CKP sensor and spacer.
  19. Remove the upper oil pan to engine front cover bolts.

  21. Remove the turbocharger coolant feed pipe bracket bolts and bracket.

  23. Remove the engine front cover bolts.
  24. Separate the engine front cover from the cylinder block and upper oil pan using J 37228  .
  25. IMPORTANT: Do not bend the turbocharger coolant pipe.
  26. Remove the engine front cover.

  28. If necessary, remove the pressure relief valve O-ring.

  30. Clean and inspect the front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Cleaning and Inspection .
