Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 GMC Sierra, 2004 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, and 2004 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Single Battery) or Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Auxiliary Battery) in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  3. If equipped, remove the auxiliary generator. Refer to Generator Replacement - Auxiliary (6.6L (LB7) Engine) in Engine Electrical.
  4. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement - Upper (W/O M74) or Fan Shroud Replacement - Upper (W/M74) in Engine Cooling.
  5. If equipped with dual generators, remove the bolt from the left side idler pulley (smooth pulley).
  6. Remove the idler pulley.

  8. Disconnect the air conditioning (A/C) compressor clutch electrical connector.
  9. Disconnect the A/C cut out switch electrical connector.
  10. Remove the A/C compressor bolts.

  12. Move the A/C compressor with the hoses attached to the right side of the engine compartment.
  13. Remove the positive cable junction block to power steering pump bolt.
  14. Secure the junction block out of the way.

  16. Remove the rear power steering pump bracket bolts (1).

  18. Remove the power steering pump front bracket bolt.

  20. Move and secure the power steering pump out of the way. The hoses and battery cables can remain attach to pump.
  21. Remove the A/C compressor and power steering pump bracket bolts.
  22. Remove the A/C compressor and power steering pump bracket.
