Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 GMC Sierra and 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT:
Be sure to keep parts in order. Parts must be reinstalled into the original location and position.
- Install the pushrods.
- Install the rocker arm supports.
- Apply lubricant GM P/N 12345501, (Canadian P/N 992704), or equivalent to the following rocker arm contact surfaces:
- Pushrod socket (1)
- Roller pivot (2)
- Valve stem tip (3)
- Install the rocker arms as follows:
- Finger start the bolt at location (1)
- Finger start the bolt at location (2)
- Finger start the bolt at location (3)
- Finger start the remaining rocker arm bolts
- Rotate the crankshaft balancer to position the crankshaft balancer alignment mark (1) 57-63 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise from the engine front cover alignment tab (2).
- Tighten the rocker arm bolts.
Tighten: Tighten bolts to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
- Install the rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Left or Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right
IMPORTANT:
Be sure that the arrow on the rocker arm support is in the up position.
NOTE:
Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
IMPORTANT:
Once the rocker arms are installed and properly torqued, no additional valve lash adjustment is required.
