Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the automatic transmission, if equipped. Refer to Transmission ReplacemeneTransmission Replacement (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L Engines)t (4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L Engines) or Transmission Replacement (5.3L Engine w/RPO HP2) in Automatic Transmission - 4L60-E.
  2. Remove the clutch, if equipped. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement in Clutch.
  3. Remove the flywheel bolts.
  4. Remove the flywheel (1 or 2).

  5. If equipped with a manual transmission, note the position of any flywheel weights for assembly.

  6. Clean and inspect the flywheel, if necessary. Refer to Engine Flywheel Cleaning and Inspection .
