Removal Procedure

- Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (with HP2) or Draining and Filling Cooling System (without HP2) in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the generator bracket. Refer to Generator Bracket Replacement (4.3L Engine) in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement - Lower .
- Remove the right exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right (4.3L Engine) in Engine Exhaust.
- Remove the right pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
- Remove the generator bracket stud from the cylinder head.
- Remove the spark plugs.
- Remove the spark plug wire support bolts and support.
- Remove the cylinder head bolts.
- Remove the cylinder head.
- Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket.
- Remove the cylinder head locator pins, if necessary.
- Clean and inspect the cylinder head, if necessary. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection .
- Disassemble the cylinder head, if necessary. Refer to Cylinder Head Disassemble .
