Removal (Sonoma & S10 Pickup)
NOTE:
On Sonoma and S10 pickup standard cab models, it may be possible to lift or remove truck bed for access to top of fuel tank.
- Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . DO NOT attempt to drain or siphon fuel through the fuel filler pipe. Fuel filler pipe contains screens on Sonoma and S10 pickup models. Remove the 3 screws retaining the fuel filler pipe to the truck bed near the fuel cap. Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove fuel filler pipe ground strap screw. Using compressed air, clean area around any fittings and hoses to be disconnected. Position an approved gasoline drain container under fuel filler pipe. Loosen fuel filler pipe hose clamp at fuel tank. Loosen vent hose clamp at fuel tank. Disconnect fuel filler pipe hose at fuel tank. Disconnect vent hose at fuel tank. Cap openings in fuel tank to prevent contamination.
- Remove fuel tank shield(s). See Fig 1 or Fig 2 . Support fuel tank. Remove fuel tank strap fasteners and fuel tank straps. Carefully lower fuel tank no more than 2" (50.8 mm). Disconnect EVAP pipe from rollover valve. See FUEL LINE DISCONNECT FITTINGS .
- Disconnect electrical connections to fuel tank at fuel sending unit. Disconnect EVAP and fuel lines to fuel tank at fuel sending unit. See FUEL LINE DISCONNECT FITTINGS . Lower fuel tank. Remove fuel tank from vehicle.
CAUTION:
Use safety glasses when using compressed air to prevent eye injury.
