Removal Procedure

WARNING: Always wear protective goggles and gloves when removing exhaust parts as falling rust and sharp edges from worn exhaust components could result in serious personal injury.
NOTE: When jacking or lifting the vehicle from the frame side rails, be certain lift pads do not contact the three-way catalytic converter as damage to the converter will result.
NOTE: Replacement of exhaust system parts must be OEM standard to ensure that the vehicle operates as designed.
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING & JACKING THE VEHICLE in General Information.
  2. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (2.2L)  or Catalytic Converter Replacement (Pickup 4.3L)  or Catalytic Converter Replacement (Utility 4.3L) .
  3. Remove the exhaust manifold pipe to manifold flange bolts.

  5. Remove the exhaust manifold pipe and seal from the vehicle.
