Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING & JACKING THE VEHICLE in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the rear axle housing cover. Refer to Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement .
  4. Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement .
  5. For axles with drum brakes, remove the axle shaft seal and the bearing from the axle housing using the J 22813-01  (7.6 inch axle) or the J 23689  (8.6 inch axle) (1) and the J 2619-01  (2).

  6. For axles with disc brakes, remove the axle shaft seal and the bearing from the axle housing using the J 22813-01  (7.6 inch axle) or the J 23689  (8.6 inch axle) (1) and the J 2619-01  (2).
