Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the hood. Support the hood.
  2. Remove the battery. Refer to BATTERY REPLACEMENT in ENGINE ELECTRICAL article.
  3. Remove the grille. Refer to GRILLE REPLACEMENT (GMC) or GRILLE REPLACEMENT (CHEVROLET) in EXTERIOR TRIM article.
  4. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  5. Remove the front bumper impact bar. Refer to IMPACT BAR REPLACEMENT - FRONT BUMPER in BUMPERS article.
  6. Remove the headlamp assemblies. Refer to HEADLAMP REPLACEMENT in EXTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  7. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING & JACKING THE VEHICLE in GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  8. Remove the steering linkage shield. Refer to STEERING LINKAGE SHIELD REPLACEMENT in STEERING LINKAGE (NON-RACK & PINION) article.
  9. Disconnect the A/C evaporator line from the 2 brackets located at the bottom of the radiator support. Refer to EVAPORATOR TUBE in MANUAL A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS article.

  10. Disconnect the electrical connector to the SIR discriminating sensors.
  11. Remove the SIR discriminating sensors from the radiator support, if replacing the radiator support. Refer to FRONT END DISCRIMINATING SENSOR in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
  12. Lower the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING & JACKING THE VEHICLE in GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  13. Disconnect the power steering hoses to the power steering cooler. Refer to POWER STEERING COOLER PIPE/HOSE REPLACEMENT (2.2L) or POWER STEERING COOLER PIPE/HOSE REPLACEMENT (4.3L) in POWER STEERING SYSTEM article.
  14. Remove the power steering cooler from the radiator support, if replacing the radiator support. Refer to POWER STEERING COOLER PIPE/HOSE REPLACEMENT (2.2L) or POWER STEERING COOLER PIPE/HOSE REPLACEMENT (4.3L) in POWER STEERING SYSTEM article.
  15. Remove the hood release cable from the radiator support and the primary hood latch. Refer to HOOD LATCH RELEASE CABLE REPLACEMENT .
  16. Remove the primary hood latch support. Refer to HOOD LATCH SUPPORT REPLACEMENT .
  17. Remove the air intake baffle. Refer to AIR INTAKE BAFFLE REPLACEMENT - RADIATOR .
  18. Remove the forward lamp wiring harness from the radiator support.

  19. Remove the upper fan shroud from the radiator support. Refer to FAN SHROUD REPLACEMENT in ENGINE COOLING article.

    Tilt the radiator toward the engine.

  20. Remove the ground screw terminals from the radiator support.

  21. Remove the bolts that retain the air conditioning condenser to the radiator support. Refer to CONDENSER in MANUAL A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS article.

  22. Remove the bolts that retain the battery tray to the radiator support. Refer to BATTERY TRAY REPLACEMENT in BATTERY article.
  23. Remove the radiator air intake baffle. Refer to AIR INTAKE BAFFLE REPLACEMENT - RADIATOR .
  24. Remove the hood support rod. Refer to HOOD HOLD-OPEN ROD REPLACEMENT .
  25. Remove the mega fuse cable and bracket.

  26. Remove the bolts that retain the radiator support to the right and the left wheel house panel. Refer to WHEELHOUSE PANEL REPLACEMENT .
  27. Remove the bolts that retain the left fender to the wheel house panel. Refer to FENDER REPLACEMENT - FRONT .

  28. Remove the bolts that retain the radiator support to the frame.
  29. Remove the bolts that retain the radiator support to the right and the left fender. Refer to FENDER REPLACEMENT - FRONT .

  30. Remove the radiator support frame mounts.
  31. Lightly push the left fender away from the vehicle in order to allow a clearance between the fender and the radiator support.
  32. Slide the left side of the support away from the vehicle.
  33. Remove the radiator support.
