Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 GMC Safari and 2003 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to OIL PAN REPLACEMENT  .
  2. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to CRANKSHAFT BALANCER REPLACEMENT  .
  3. Remove the water pump. Refer to WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT in Engine Cooling.
  4. Remove the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor. Refer to CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) RELUCTOR RING REPLACEMENT  in Engine Performance.
    NOTE: Do not reuse the engine front cover. Oil leaks may result.
  5. Remove the engine front cover. Refer to ENGINE FRONT COVER REMOVAL  .
  6. Discard the engine front cover.
  7. Clean all sealing surfaces.
