Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER REPLACEMENT in Interior Trim.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to ENGINE CONTROLS - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in Engine Performance.
  3. Remove the radiator. Refer to RADIATOR REPLACEMENT in Engine Cooling.
  4. Remove the A/C condenser. Refer to CONDENSER REPLACEMENT in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  5. Remove the radiator grille. Refer to GRILLE REPLACEMENT in Body Front End.
  6. Remove the valve lifters. Refer to VALVE LIFTER REPLACEMENT  .
  7. Remove the timing chain and the camshaft sprocket. Refer to TIMING CHAIN AND SPROCKETS REPLACEMENT  .
  8. Remove the balance shaft drive gear.

  9. Remove the camshaft. Refer to CAMSHAFT REMOVAL  .
  10. Clean and inspect the camshaft and the bearings. Refer to CAMSHAFT AND BEARINGS CLEANING AND INSPECTION  .
