Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 GMC Safari and 2003 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Important:  Whenever a new camshaft is installed, do the following procedures:

  1. Install the camshaft into the engine block. Refer to CAMSHAFT INSTALLATION  .
  2. Install the balance shaft drive gear. Refer to BALANCE SHAFT INSTALLATION  for alignment of the balance shaft drive gear and the driven gear.
  3. Install the timing chain and camshaft sprocket. Refer to TIMING CHAIN AND SPROCKETS REPLACEMENT  .
  4. Install the valve lifters. Refer to VALVE LIFTER REPLACEMENT  .
  5. Install the A/C condenser. Refer to CONDENSER REPLACEMENT in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  6. Install the radiator grille. Refer to GRILLE REPLACEMENT in Body Front End.
  7. Install the radiator. Refer to RADIATOR REPLACEMENT in Engine Cooling.
  8. Fill the engine cooling system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM in Engine Cooling.
  9. Recharge the air conditioning system. Refer to REFRIGERANT RECOVERY AND RECHARGING in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  10. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to ENGINE CONTROLS - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in Engine Performance.
  11. Install the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER REPLACEMENT in Interior Trim.
