Brake Pedal Excessive Travel

- Were you sent here from a Brake Symptom List? If so, go to next step. If not, go to GENERAL DIAGNOSIS (HYDRAULIC BRAKES) .
- Inspect for proper brake pedal travel. See BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL under ADJUSTMENTS. Is brake pedal travel distance within the acceptable level? If so, go to step 5. If not, go to next step.
- Perform the following:
- Inspect for worn, missing, misaligned, bent or damaged brake pedal system components.
- Inspect brake pedal pushrod components.
- Inspect brake pedal bushings for excessive wear and/or damage and inspect the brake pedal for a bent and/or damaged condition.
- Replace brake pedal system components that are worn, missing, misaligned, bent or damaged, refer to the following procedures as necessary:
- See BRAKE BOOSTER .
- See BRAKE PEDAL .
- Inspect for worn, missing, misaligned, bent or damaged brake pedal system components.
- Reinspect for proper brake pedal travel. See BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL under ADJUSTMENTS. Is brake pedal travel distance within the acceptable level? If so, go to step 8. If not, go to next step.
- Inspect hydraulic brake system for proper operation. Did you find and correct a condition? If so, go to step 8. If no see HYDRAULIC BRAKES SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS .
- Inspect disc brake system for proper operation. See GENERAL DIAGNOSIS (DISC BRAKES) . Did you find and correct a condition? If so, go to step 8. If not, go to next step.
- Inspect brake assist system for proper operation. Did you find and correct a condition? If so, go to next step. If not, go to GENERAL DIAGNOSIS (HYDRAULIC BRAKES) .
- Road test vehicle to confirm proper operation. See BRAKE SYSTEM ROAD TEST . If condition is still present, go to step 2.
