Rear Brake Pads: Removal

  1. Inspect fluid level in brake master cylinder reservoir.
  2. If brake fluid level is midway between the maximum full point and minimum allowable level, no brake fluid needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding.
  3. If brake fluid level is higher than midway between the maximum full point and minimum allowable level, remove brake fluid to the midway point before proceeding.
  4. Raise and support vehicle.
  5. Remove wheels.
  6. Inspect caliper operation.
  7. Using a C-clamp, slowly bottom the pistons into caliper. It may be necessary to reposition the C-clamp to allow both pistons to bottom into the caliper bores.
    8. NOTE: DO NOT disconnect hydraulic brake flexible hose from caliper.
  8. Remove caliper from mounting bracket and support caliper with wire. See BRAKE CALIPER (REAR) .
  9. Inspect caliper assembly.
  10. Remove brake pads from brake caliper bracket.
  11. Remove and discard anti-rattle clips from brake caliper mounting bracket.
