Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 GMC Safari and 2003 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in SIR.
  2. Remove the turn signal cancel cam assembly. Refer to TURN SIGNAL CANCEL CAM AND UPPER BEARING THRUST WASHER  .

  3. Remove the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly only. Refer to MULTIFUNCTION, TURN SIGNAL SWITCH REPLACEMENT  .
  4. Slide the turn signal switch housing off of the steering column shaft assembly.
  5. Remove the tilt head housing and steering shaft as an assembly. Refer to LOWER BEARING AND STEERING COLUMN JACKET REPLACEMENT (TILT COLUMN)  or LOWER BEARING AND STEERING COLUMN JACKET REPLACEMENT (STANDARD COLUMN)  .
  6. Remove the tilt head from the steering shaft.
