Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 GMC Safari and 2003 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in SIR.
  2. Remove the ignition lock cylinder case. Refer to IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER CASE REPLACEMENT (TILT COLUMN)  or IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER CASE REPLACEMENT (STANDARD COLUMN)  .
  3. Remove the shift lever assembly. Refer to SHIFT LEVER REPLACEMENT  .

  4. Remove the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly. Refer to MULTIFUNCTION, TURN SIGNAL SWITCH REPLACEMENT  .
  5. Use a screwdriver to gently pry the automatic transmission shift lock control from the steering column jacket assembly.
  6. Remove the linear shift assembly. Refer to LINEAR SHIFT ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT  .

  7. Remove the 4 TORX® head screws from the steering column housing assembly.
  8. Remove the steering column housing assembly from the steering column housing jacket.
  9. Remove the following parts from the steering column jacket assembly:
    1. 9.1. The steering column seal (3).
    2. 9.2. The adapter and bearing assembly (2).
    3. 9.3. The lower steering shaft (1).
