Test T: Low Oil Pressure Message Always On

  1. If Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If IPC diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step.
  2. Observe message center. Start engine. If LOW OIL PRESSURE message illuminates, go to next step. If LOW OIL PRESSURE message does not illuminate, check for an intermittent or poor connections in related circuits. See DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Using scan tool, observe ENGINE OIL PRESSURE parameter in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) data list. If scan tool displays LOW, go to next step. If scan tool does not display LOW, go to step  7 .
  4. Disconnect Oil Pressure Switch (OPS) 1-pin harness connector. OPS is located at front of engine, behind starter. See Figure . Using scan tool, observe ENGINE OIL PRESSURE parameter in PCM data list. If scan tool displays LOW, go to next step. If scan tool does not display LOW, go to step  9 .
  5. Disconnect PCM Clear harness connector C2. PCM is located in air filter housing. Test Tan/Black wire between OPS harness connector and PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 19 for short to ground. See Figure . If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  6. Check for poor connections at PCM C2 harness connector. If no problem is found, go to step  8 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  7. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  10 .
  8. Replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  10 .
  9. Replace OPS. After repair, go to next step.
  10. Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step  3 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
