Removal & Installation

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Position vehicle with front wheels pointed straight ahead and steering wheel centered.
  2. Remove driver-side air bag module. See AIR BAG MODULES . Disconnect cruise control switch (if equipped) and horn switch connector. Remove steering wheel nut and discard.
  3. Install Steering Wheel Puller (J1859A) onto steering wheel and remove steering wheel. Feed wiring through the steering wheel and remove wheel from steering shaft. Insert Yellow tab into SIR coil assembly or tape SIR coil in place to prevent rotation while steering wheel is removed.
  4. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten NEW steering wheel nut to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Activate air bag system.
