Removal Procedure

    CAUTION: Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which the components are being removed.
  1. Position the vehicle on the hoist and raise the vehicle.
  2. Remove the transfer drain plug and drain the transaxle.
  3. Remove the front wheel drive shaft. Refer to WHEEL DRIVE SHAFT REPLACEMENT - FRONT in Wheel Drive Shafts.

  4. Remove the PTU bracket connecting the PTU to the engine.
  5. Remove the PTU bolts.

  6. Remove the PTU.

  7. Using the Seal Remover J 45000  remove the right drive axle seal from the torque converter housing assembly. See Special Tools .
