Disabling System

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Montana, 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette, and 2002 Chevrolet Venture. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: When SIR fuse is removed and ignition is on, AIR BAG warning light will be on. This does not indicate a system malfunction.
  1. Turn steering wheel to place vehicle wheels in straight-ahead position. Turn ignition off and remove key.
  2. Remove SDM fuse (15-amp) from instrument panel fuse block, located on right side of instrument panel. Remove driver-side knee bolster. Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clip and disconnect driver-side air bag module connector, located base of steering column. See Fig 1.
  3. Remove passenger-side knee bolster. Remove CPA clip and disconnect passenger-side air bag module connector located below instrument panel. See Fig 2.
  4. Remove CPA clip and disconnect driver side impact air bag connector. See Fig 3. Remove CPA clip and disconnect driver-side seat belt pretensioner connector. Remove CPA clip and disconnect passenger side impact air bag module connector. Remove CPA clip and disconnect passenger-side seat belt pretensioner connector.
