Seat Belt PRETENSIONER
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Montana, 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette, and 2002 Chevrolet Venture. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Seat belt pretensioner assemblies consist of end release buckle, buckle sleeve, routing cable with piston, piston tube, mounting bracket and gas generator. When vehicle is in a frontal collision of sufficient force, SDM causes current flow through deployment loops. Current passing through pretensioners ignites inflator charges, producing gas which rapidly shortens seat belt buckle height.
