Torque Tube Assembly Cleaning and Inspection
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Montana, 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette, and 2002 Chevrolet Venture. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT:
- The internal components of the torque tube assembly are not serviced separately. Replace the tube and internal components as an assembly.
- Do not remove the dampeners from the tube bracket. Removal and reinstallation may effect component noise and/or vibration levels.
- Inspect the torque tube for broken or cracked welds (1), dents or damage to the exterior of the tube (2), a damaged propeller shaft flange (3), or loose or missing dampeners (4).
- Inspect the propeller shaft seal surface (1) for wear or excessive scoring.
- Inspect the propeller shaft splines (2) for any unusual or excessive wear.
